Abstract

The relevance of the common good concept is increasing in public and political life across different nations. This paper proposes to analyze the dynamics of common goods and the intellectual virtue of truthfulness. We conducted a study of students and teachers in eight universities in Mexico to measure truthfulness. The paper is structured as follows: First, we analyze the concept of humanity in the context of the common good. Second, we discuss the theory of common goods in universities, including the types of common goods produced and the collective habits they foster. Third, we present the results of our study on truthfulness in eight Mexican universities. Finally, we discuss the implications of our findings on the intellectual virtue of truthfulness.
