N2 - The sleep-wake cycle is a neurobiological phenomenon driven by the complex interaction of different neuroanatomical, neurochemical, and genetic networks. In addition, sleep is also under the strict influence of circadian and homeostatic factors modulating its appearance ∼24h. Furthermore, sleep-wake cycle is also under the effects of exogenous and endogenous compounds. In this chapter, we provide the state of the art in the field of the sleep control by chemicals derived from Cannabis sativa (cannabinoids) and the endocannabinoid system.
